Help make aquaculture’s journey toward greater production and sustainability possible by joining the more than 300 seafood professionals and thought leaders from around the world who attend the Global Aquaculture Alliance’s annual GOAL (Global Outlook on Aquaculture Leadership) conference. Through GOAL, GAA strives to carry out its mission of responsible aquaculture by providing a venue at which leadership development, cooperation and education are encouraged. This year's theme is "Celebrating Leadership."
Back in Vietnam
In 2014, GOAL returns to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, for the first time since 2005. Vietnam is an aquaculture powerhouse, exporting U.S. $6.72 billion of seafood in 2013, led by shrimp and Pangasius.
The conference will be held at the Sheraton Saigon Hotel & Towers, a luxurious 470-room hotel featuring 2,500 square meters of meeting space, including a 1,080-square-meter ballroom. The Sheraton Saigon is located in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City’s vibrant business and entertainment district, just steps from a number of tourist destinations, including the Opera House, Ben Thanh Market and Reunification Palace.
GOAL is attended by a cross-section of representatives from industry, retail and foodservice, government, academia, the investment community and the NGO community.
Since its inception in 2001, GOAL has evolved into a must-attend event for top-level seafood executives and thought leaders from around the world.
GOAL features three days of information and analysis on the farmed seafood value chain, beginning with a plenary session in the morning and followed by breakout sessions in the afternoon. Disease risk management (including early mortality syndrome in shrimp), leadership and innovation, food safety, aqua feed sustainability, aquaculture insurance and risk management, and marketplace accessibility are among the themes that will be addressed by nearly 50 presenters and panelists. And, for the first time this year, Day 0 of GOAL 2014 (Oct. 7) will feature a day-long seminar on aqua feed sustainability at the Park Hyatt Saigon, just steps from the Sheraton Saigon. Vietnamese and Mandarin translation will be provided at the conference.

Brazilian Rendering Congress - São Paulo
Recycling of animal by-products is the subject of the 13th Brazil Rendering Congress, sponsored by Sincobesp (National Association of Collectors and Processors of animal byproducts). This will be taking place on the 9th and 10th of April in Campinas, São Paulo. This sector is responsible for producing one quarter of the world* animal meal, as well as producing oils and fats, biodiesel, soap manufacture, petfood products and organic fertiliser.
Bringing together national and international entrepreneurs, large refrigerators in the country, experts in recycling and other business sector, the Congress will discuss the main issues related to the evolution of the production chain, such as quality standards of flour and fat and good food safety practices for the production of flour and fat.
In the view of the president of the Union, Gustavo Razzo Neto, it is important that the authorities and the population are made aware of the importance of this work. "We remove animal waste movement and reposition it in the market in the form of important products for the population."
Besides the Congress, the 9th Fenagra - Graxarias International Fair will be taking place at the same venue. This brings together technology vendors as well as news and trends in the recycling of animal origin. This year the exhibition area will be 62 % higher than in 2013 and participants will have an exclusive space for the exhibition of machinery and equipment.
